What is genetic transmission?

Genetic transfer is the process by which hereditary material, our genes, are passed from one generation to the next. This process occurs from parent to offspring and allows heritable traits to be passed on.

How does it affect evolution?

Genetic transmission plays a key role in evolution. During evolution, genes in individuals change and these changes are passed on to offspring. Individuals with genes that have more favourable traits are more likely to survive and reproduce, so the favourable traits are spread through the population.

New traits can also evolve through genetic transfer. This process happens through mutations, where random changes occur in our genes. If such a change is advantageous under given environmental conditions, the trait may become more advantageous and spread through evolution.

The link between genetic transmission and evolution is therefore that through the transmission of heritable traits, the genes of individuals change and these changes affect the population. Evolution spreads the more favoured traits and new traits may also emerge through genetic transmission.
