About this data
12-month change in the Producer Price Index for final demand: prices received by US producers for goods, services and construction, from BLS via FRED.
What it measures
The prices US businesses receive for what they sell to final buyers, including goods, services and construction, measured by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Why it matters
Producer prices often move ahead of consumer prices, and they are where tariffs show up first when importers and manufacturers pass on higher costs. Several PPI components also feed directly into the PCE index the Fed targets.
